Hello, all. I'm not new to the forum, but haven't posted in a while.

In driving back and forth from home, I've spotted what I think is a CJ3B, sitting beside a shed. It's about 100 yards from the road so I can't tell much about it, but I can tell it has a steel half cab on it, and I'm thinking about stopping and asking about the Jeep.

Will this cab fit a CJ5, and if so, what years? I have a '75 CJ5, and this might be a nice accessory, although I doubt it'll fit.

    Thanks.

Hey, Neighbor! ( I live near Lecoma),

It won't be a bolt on fit for sure-but you might make it fit with a lot of work. The flat fender tubs were narrower at the windshield frame (which is also narrower) and the sides of the tub taper in at mid-door opening where your CJ5 is straight-sided all the way. You're probably better off finding one specifically for a 5/6. There used to be an old Conversation Dept. CJ5 with a half-cab in Salem near Sonic, but I haven't seen it in a few years...

    Cheers,

Howdy, neighbor! I moved to Kirkwood (Southwestern St. Louis area) recently, but I'm still home every few weeks or so. This Jeep is about 3 miles outside of Steelville, MO.

Thanks. I hadn't thought of the tapered/non tapered sides, but you're right - that'd require a lot of modification.

Was the Jeep sitting in the yard of a house just East of Sonic, across from the cemetery? I haven't seen it there in a good while - I think it was for sale at some point. :( It was a nice rig, though, and appeared to be all original.

Yep. That was it. The same guy had a Model A Ford in his garage and had it for sale for some time. I have wondered if he sold it and parked the Jeep in the tiny garage?

Yep, I remember the Model A, too. That's possible, but I think I'd have seen it out in the yard as many times as I've been by there, unless it never comes out. I don't remember if it was ever for sale or not, but I've looked for it ever since it disappeared and haven't seen it.

Per your original question, no. A CJ-3B cab will not fit a CJ-5. IMO it would be easier to start with a CJ-5 full cab and make it into a half cab, rather than modify the 3B cab. CJ-5 cabs are fairly common, if you want to go that route. I have a CJ-6 cab in my yard and basement that someone could take away for next to nothing ...

Thanks for the reply, Tim, and hello again. :) Yes, I can see why that would be easier.

For somebody in the East, it would be - but my '85 GMC C3500 gets 12 MPG, and that'd cost a fortune!
