Oil in trany and t-case

How much oil is the d20 and t15 suppose to take. When I drained the t-case the po had about a gallon are better in it. The only plug I see to fill it is on the passenger side rear I think that is were it should fill to. I haven't drained the tray yet, gona do that tomorrow. The t-case was nasty as hell, would it hurt to fill it with diesel and drive it around the block then drain it and fill with oil same for the trany.

I'm not sure what year you have, but according to the '74 service manual - the tranfer case takes 3.25 pints and the Tranny takes 2.75 pints (T15A). It is recommended that both are changed at the same time. You will find the fill plugs above the drain plugs. If you fill through these plugs (fill plugs) you just fill until the fluid starts to come out through them.

I wouldn't recommend running diesel fuel through either.

Yes, if the oil is particularly dirty, change the oil again after a few hundred miles. Repeat as needed. Don't put any other oils or solvents in the transmission.
