I fix one leak and another crops up. Now oil is leaking out from behind the fuel pump on my F head. Its kinda like the Dutchboy and the dike. If I am going to replace the leaky gasket, I may as well replace the fuel pump, which may be somewhat suspect anyways. I have heard mixed reports on the imported fuel pumps. Are there still NOS pumps out there? Is there a newer pump that will fit? I don't need the vacuum so that's not an issue.

for my fhead i bought a glass bowl replacement from walcks4wd.com and im not having any problems with it, its working fine with no problems. only difference between it and the original is now i had to reroute the fuel lines a little bit since the inlet and outlet on the fuel pump are on opposite sides as the original. oh and i still have the original carter 938sd carburetor

Another option is to rebuild the fuel pump you have, which is what I chose to do. A rebuild kit is available at www.classicpreservation.com or they can rebuild your fuel pump.

The fact the input is reversed is just what concerns me. What else is wrong.

IIRC, on the early style pumps you may be able to re-clock the casting when you re-assemble the pump, to put the ports where you want them.

A few month ago i installed a brand new Airtex 572. As this pump didnt solve the problems i had, i switched to electric pump, so that Airtex worked only a few hours.
Today i took out the Airtex to examine it. I pull and push the lever and no vacum at all ! I opened the 6 nuts and guess what was inside: one of the valves found himself a new location free above the diaphragm (there are 2 valves in oposite directions). That valve didnt allow the lever and the diaph. to move.
That valve wasnt installed right as i didnt noticed any "punch" to hold it in place.
I thought Airtex is a good brand.
