Rear Wheel Cylinder Interchange

    At some point between 1968 and 1972 the rear wheel cylinders went from 13/16" to 15/16". Are these interchangeable?

    My rear 10" x 2" Bendix uses 13/16" wheel cylinders. My FLAPS has 15/16" in stack for $9. The 13/16" is special order for $36.

    The 15/16" should be for 11" drum brakes so no, not interchangeable.

    Like Nick said.
    For CJ's the change occurs in 1972 with introduction of the 11" Bendix brakes.
    The 11" Bendix brake backing plates have a larger wheel cylinder index than the 10" Wagner backing plates.

    Larger cylinder diameter = more force applied to the shoes than they were designed for compared to the front = rear brakes locking up before the fronts = way more excitement than is good for you. :(

    OK, no go. so the 10" are Wagner and the 11" are Bendix. Good to know.

    I had modified some brake lines around the MC and needed to bleed the system. Rusted on bleed valve broke off. Couldn't get an easy out into it. Pulled it out, welded an nib on it. Still no luck. I'll put it back on for now and bleed by the line fitting.
