Anyone know how these hubs work? They are on a 55 - 59 CJ5 that is my first project. I tried giving them a few turns but they have'nt locked the wheel yet. Any help?

Guess I'll have to e-mail the pics, can't get the to attach. They have two rods that turn with a lever that folds into the hub.

I had to take one of mine apart. It was froze up. Nothing a little grease won't fix. ;)

Take them apart one at a time. Reassemble one before taking the other apart. It is very easy to get to the "where did that go again?" point if you are not familiar with them.

At least this way you'll have an 'original' to compare the one you are putting back together.

Frazeysburg, North of Zanesville. How do these hubs operate? I'm used to a dial.

Pull out the lever, rotate 180*, push back down. Same for the other one.

Should say "lock" on one edge and "free" on the opposite edge.

Thanks. So I might have to fiddle with them to get back in sequence, both in or out. I'll check in the morning to see if I can find any markings on them. Nothing else to do since my parts didn't come today.

Sounds like you are referring to Dual-Matic Hubs. Here's a page with some details and images of the innards of the hub. I have two sets of Cutlass Power lock hubs that are similar but require a tool to lock and unlock.

Thanks guys. After brushing some rust off I found the levers are marked. Will try another picture if I can get the file size small enough.

FYI on these hubs...Insure that both cams are locked, I've seen a number of broken hubs(mine included) due to having only one cam locked. Also, they can be a PITA to lock due to the wide spacing of the cam lugs. Be sure to carry a screwdriver with you as the cam rotating bars can become frozen and need to be pried out, especialy if you have been in deep mud. For what it's worth, I don't like this style of hub, and have seen a lot of problems with them.
