Hey everyone. I finally got my CJ6 shipped to my house a couple months ago, and needless to say, I realize after having many early 4x4's, that I'm definitely a Jeep guy through and through. I'm in love with the thing. It's currently not running, ( needs a battery and the starter rebuilt or a starter solonoid), so I just sit in it, crawl under it, walk around it, etc. It's awesome!
I have a couple questions about some things that I've seen that all of them have on the body, or most anyway.
    1. There's a little cut groove on the hood on the driver side, ( on the hood itself and on the inside fender ridge under the hood).
    2. The indentations on both sides of the rear quarters. On the passenger side it's hid by the side mounted spare tire.
    3. The tubular little holders on the back on either side of the tailgate, towards the outside edge of the body, and just under the top. They look like flag holders.

I've attached a couple pics of the body parts in question, and a few of the whole jeep.
Thanks for the input, and for such a cool place to spend time learning about these awesome little 4x4's!

Hood relief was for wire to the military black-out light mounted on the driver's fender.

Indents on rear quarters were where military top-bow sockets mounted.

"Flag holders" were for civilian top-bows.

Try google image search for M38A1 pics.

Nice Jeep. Amazing to have the steps intact. The "defroster" fan is a classic period accessory.

Thanks Pete. It was really taken care of by the previous owners. One interesting thing was that the F-134 was changed out for an L-Head. It was rebuilt by the previous owner and has 13,000 on the engine. The total miles on the Jeep are 57,750. I bought some lead additive for the fuel, but do you think the valves were replaced with the original equipment valves or changed out for newer gas ones in the rebuild? I don't know if they even have newer ones for unleaded gas for the L-Heads?

I personally don't know about the valve specifications.

But the consensus here in a recent thread seems to be that a gently used engine will not have any problems with unleaded fuel.

    very nice CJ6.

Abut the engine : they say that it is not useful to put additive, I do it sometimes, maybe it can help, but I do it when it comes in my mind.
They should have put the new engine, the 4 cyl F 134 I have. They had this one in stock.
In US you have all the engines, 6L, V6 and 8, you can do what you want.

More serious : you have a Meyer hard top, it looks like.
Get rapidly a bottle of anti-rust clean and treat.

I have this experience. You don't see the rust, these hard-tops are made of 2 sheets welded, there is spaces between the sheets, and rust go inside and works from inside. When you see it outside, too late. By chance my hard-top, probably the only one in good condition in France, was not too rusted, I used Rustol or similar + Hammerite painting and it seems OK.

But if you don't take care, your roof will go away easily.

Also I have put a good hook in the gravity center of the hard-top so I can get the hard-top up easily, and keep it in my barn.
It is good to fix it on, you can do it alone (with a small winch), if not you need to be 3 and not so easy.

You have some work to do, for summer take the hard-top away and build a canvas top, it is easy.

Hey guys. Thanks for the compliments. I bought the Jeep out of Nebraska from an elderly man that was selling his estate. He owned it since 1985 or so. The original color is the Spruce Tip Green. I look forward to getting it going and tooling around with it. It definitely makes me smile.

    Very nice!
Looks like that left front hold hold down is on backwards. The base is slotted further one way than the other allowing the latch to lay away from the hood to help keep from scratching it. In the pic it looks like it is turned around with the slot facing the hood not allowing the latch to lay away from the hood. May be why the bottom of the hood in that area is scratched up.

Thanks Nick. I'll definitely check that hold down and see what's going on with it. Thanks for the compliment too! Hopefully this week I'll be able to get a starter solonoid and battery and get her running!
