Those who have a remote reservoir for your underbody master cylinder, where did you connect the hose to the MC? I'm replacing the single with a dual MC on my '62 Jeep p/u. I bought a kit from Herm, a Wilwood reservoir from Summit. Pictures if possible. Thank you, David

i think you drill and tap into the cover i believe but not sure. if that is how you do it i would put some kind of shutoff valve so when you take off the cover it does not overflow.

You would need to eliminate the vent, if any. The old caps were also a breather.

My plan is to go through the cap. Already drilled out the old cap. Haven't installed it or sealed the vent yet. Didn't want to drill and tap the side of the new MC, so went this route. Picked up the remote kit from Summit for $20 I think. Brake job is stuck on the MC output fitting. mine was stripped out so the new hard line wouldn't seal. I ordered the dual output one, but waiting to see if my local Jeep shop can run down a single.

Have you installed the master cylinder yet? You realize with Herm's setup there is cutting of the factory mount involved? Might do some research if you have not installed it yet on E-Willys and other places...

nickmil, I'm using the same MC as my '71 CJ5. I saw another kit using a MC with a plastic reservoir, like later models use. This mounted in the original position, I was afraid heat from exhaust would melt it. That's why I chose Herm's kit. Can I drill holes in the cover or do I need to tap the MC itself? Thanks to all of you, David

What kit uses a plastic reservoir in the original position? The only other kit I'm aware of uses remote mounted reservoirs with hoses down to the master cylinder. The reservoirs bolt on the fender or firewall. I'm always interested in expanding my knowledge however.
In your case I'd suggest tapping the side of the mc reservoir so the fluid flows directly into the mc. If you tap the top of the cap the seal won't allow the fluid to flow into the mc. If you remove the seal fluid will leak out between the cap and mc or water/debris can leak in. You really need that seal in there.

What bracket are you using? The '70 CJ mc requires a right angle bracket to mount it up. Herm's bracket is a copy of the '68--'71 CJ bracket and when used on a wagon/pu requires cutting of the original mount. Problem is, once it's cut it's very hard to reverse or use other conversions that are virtual bolt ons. Are you sure it's a '70 CJ master cylinder you are using? Herm has been supplying ones for an AMC car for many of his conversions. Nothing wrong with that if you can make it work for you ok.

Nickmil, I bought Herm's kit w/o MC. Went to FLAPS and bought re-man with same no. as my '71 CJ. The p/u doesn't have the hole in the floor that the CJ has, that's why I want remote reservior. Is there a kit that bolts to the holes from the original single MC and uses the dual MC like I have? I haven't done mine yet because of the mount cutting. Another question: where will I find the little brass junction blocks needed to split brake lines F/R? My truck has a 3/16" line from the rear brakes to a junction where the right front 3/16" joins and a 1/4" line crosses over to the single MC with a V the left front 3/16" line goes the other V leg. The V is attached with a hollow bolt threaded for the brake switch. The brake switch blocks like my '71 would work. Thanks David

Herm's is the only kit I'm aware of that uses the stock "CJ style" master cylinder for Wagons and PU's. But as noted, you have to cut the old mount out. R&P's kit uses a Wilwood master cylinder but IIRC there is no cutting involved. They actually supply pretty much everything needed to install their kit vs. Herm's that leaves you on your own sometimes for this type of stuff. Does Herm offer the junction block you mention or say what to use? If not, then pm me. I have a selection of various junction blocks taken from scrapped Jeeps and may have something that will work.

i totaly forgot about the seal for the m/c. my bad. so then the only other way is to drill and tap the side? it can be a PITA sometimes to fill the m/c
