I am going to replace the gasket on the top of my underseat tank (it leaks). I want to do this while the tank is still in the jeep. Is there a trick or two I need to know so I don't get any dirt or debris in the tank while I am repairing?

    TIA

Dennis: Other than the obvious "clean it well" before you take it off, I don't think very much. Where did you find a gasket? Or are you making your own.

Nice to have you around again, Jim! :)

Krage has them. I am going to keep this tank in for a while and now that there is a top on the jeep, I need to solve the problem. It leaks a little when full.

    Thanks

Dennis: Thanks. Yea, the PO sealed mine with clear silicone--seems to work but I still get a little smell in there. I think most of it is from the cap when I fill it up. Mine is a locking Jeep cap and it vents through the key hole! R)

Make sure if you use a sealant, RTV or the likes along with the gasket remember less is better. Had a friend over use RTV sealant and chunks fell into the tank and clogged the fuel line. Stopped him dead in his tracks. Had to run a hose from fill neck to fuel pump to get back to camp to fix it right!
