I have removed the tranny from the 66 CJ-5 and am having issues trying to figure out what kind of tranny it is. The tranny itself has a serial number of T86AA-1B and the shifter assembly has a serial number of T90C-148B. If anyone can look at these pics and help me out with the type of tranny I have it would be greatly appreciated.http://photobucket.com/albums/v379/usmc-ordie/

Well for sure, you have a warn OD stuck on the back of that dana 18. :D

Could be a T-86, or a T-86 with T-90 internals. Maybe some one can tell from the last pic.

The tranny is a T-86. I can tell because it has a helical cut output shaft for first gear and the gear itself is helical cut. T-90's have a straight cut or spur cut first gear and straight cut splines on the output shaft where the T-90 first gear slides. It's possible someone put T-86 shift forks in the T-90 top as the two will interchange as long as you use the T90 shift forks with the T-90 guts and T-86 forks with T-86 guts. The pattern on the front of the case also looks like the T-86/T-14 bellhousing pattern. Nickmil.
