I'm thinking about a new project.
I've swapped out my front brakes from 9's to 11's, and now I'm looking at the old 9's wondering what to do with them.
I'm thinking of putting them on the trailer I plan to tow with the cj, for extra stopping power,

Can I convert 9" hydraulic brakes to electric and put them on a trailer?

Just seems a waste to throw them in the trash, just to buy new electrics,
    Thanks!

Anything CAN be done but there simply isn't a good way to switch to electric. Electric brakes run a magnet on a armature plate inside the drum so it would cost way more to convert the drums and the backing plates. They could be used with hydraulic surge brakes but they really lack stopping power in the first place. They really are 8 cent a pound extras. Someone will most likely chime in with the "save them for someone doing a restoration" I have been doing Jeep parts for 30 plus years and have never had anyone ask for some 9" brakes. I do keep a set on the shelf just in case that day ever comes though.

    What Daryl said.
I'd put them up for sale or for free in the classifieds first though. Someone may need parts just to keep theirs going.

OK, I guess I put them on the shelf for now and just buy new electrics.
    Thanks for the advice!

I just buy used mobile-home axles with electric brakes already on them. Often come with 10-ply tires.
