When you guys rebuild your hubs or disassemble them do you use silicone on the outer cap in place of the gasket or do you use new gaskets, I'm not buying rebuild kits for my hubs to get a $1 set of gaskets. If someone knows where to get just the gaskets please let me know.
One of the reasons I don't care for the RTV is the fact that both sets that I have, had been packed so tight full of RTV on the endcaps that it bent the guts to the Warn hubs to the point I had to disassemble them and re-bend the inner threaded plate to get them to work!

    Mike,

Herm carries the gaskets pretty cheap. That's what I did. Shipping is cheap since its only a postage stamp!

I've had trouble with getting water in the hubs and front wheel bearings so I use blue rtv. It's a pain to get enough on for a good seal without getting too much on. I much prefer the gasket but I think the blue goop is more water tight. What does dan florida swamp water stew do for this?

get gasket paper from flaps and make your own. if worried about watertightness, spread thin film of sillycone on BOTH sides of gasket.

Sorry Frank, don't have much water and muck in the mountains and the woods up here.
Making the gaskets is an option but they are very thin and would be very hard to cut, if you make them wider they will then hang out of the hubs and look like crap.
Herm says he has the gaskets for $4 for 4 of them. I emailed him yesterday, late afternoon and he responded well after he was closed, great guy!!!!

Herm can't be beat! I always laugh when I see an overdrive sell on eBay at an inflated price, when I know the buyer probably could get one already rebuilt for (usually) about the same or less.

Just recieved my reconditioned D44 powerlock and new bearings. I purchased it from schardein, who sent it to Herm. Herm reconditioned it, added new bearings and sent it on down to me.
