I took my hubs apart last summer and put them in a box. Now I'm putting them back together and having a bit of trouble. One is Righty Tighty and the other is Lefty Tighty. Which one go's on which side? Also noticed a few shims...but I don't know where they came from? How do I tell?
Last problem...My Manual isn't very good at explaining how they go back together. Do I have to torque the big nut down or do you back it off like a normal hub? If so what keeps it on? I don't see a place for a cotter pin?
    Thanks!

left hand studs and hub nuts go on the driver side. so they tighten as the wheels turn forward. back off the big nut till it rolls nice then goes a keyed washer and another nut to jam it in place

a pic of the shims would help us to identify them for you. but your probably talking about shims for the kingpin preload but without a picture its hard to guess.

for the which side of hub is which. left hand thread studs usually have a large L stamped in the end of the wheel stud and it would go on driver side then the other hub with normal right hand threads would go on passenger.

the front hubs don't stay on with a cotter pin. each front hub should have 2 large washers and 2 large but thin nuts. one nut is to set preload and the other is a locknut for the first nut

Thanks! I think what I thought were shims must be the "Keyed washers" One has a tab that go's down and the other come's out at a right angle.
I have a manual that goes into great detail on the assembly/disassembly of the manual locking type hub, and very little about my plain Jane hubs.
