I had a broken spring on the back drivers side (there when I bought it) and got around to pulling the rear end last week. I took both springs up to the local spring guy who told me they were too far gone to fix.
So, now I'm in the market for new springs. No cj's at the local wreckers. Is there a compatible doner? read somewhere YJ springs will fit? He said he could built new one's for $300 each, but that will take up a good chunk of this years jeep budget. Any recommendations would be appreciated!

Just about every suspension vendor has springs for CJ5/6, most in the $500-700 range for a complete kit with new shocks/U-bolts/etc. You will likely find most are a minimum of 2.5" lift but BDS may have a 1" version that looks pretty much stock. IMO, rebuilt springs are essentially worthless and rarely give more than a year or so service before resembling their pre-rebuilt status. And yes, there are custom spring builders out there that will make you a good set of springs but is it worth 2 to 3 times the cost of a good set of off-the-shelf versions with a little lift?

You seem to indicate $600 would be pushing it, but good springs are an essential part and are well worth the investment. Definitely don't play around with junk springs. As Duffer suggested a complete set is the way to go. :)

YJ springs and the work it takes to fit them will destroy you budget at that rate for years. It can be a lot of work and mission creep will kill you

Try General Spring in Kansas City. For 55-75 CJs, they list 5 front springs and 5 rear springs, various # of leafs and ratings. They give spring length, pack thickness etc. They also sell ubolts, etc. Good bunch to deal with and prices are good. Shipping isn't cheap with something as heavy as springs, but when the time comes to correct the jeep lean on my A1, that's where I'll go.
