I picked up a kit to rebuild all the clutch linkage on my 65 and found some parts I didn't know existed. There are 2 springs 2 felts and 2 caps. I pulled apart the old bell crank and found 1 spring 2 caps and the 2 felts but they're all held back by 2 cotter pins. As far as I can tell looking the old parts none of them seem to do anything. Do any of these parts have a function? Should I replace them, or just leave them out? Should I put both springs in or just one like in the old one?
    Thanks!

Use both springs, they hold equal tension on each end. All of the parts should be in there as they help keep grease in and dirt out, granted it's not an excellent design but it does help.

You say these parts are held "BACK" by the cotter pins? The cotter pins are to hold the parts forward to apply pressure to the ball studs.

Yes, they were held back in the center of the tube, were they don't make contact with anything. Seems kind of useless. They're supposed to be ahead of the cotter pin? not sure there is enough room, but then they would be doing something. maybe they would fit if I just leave the pins out?
    Thanks!

At the risk of asking a stupid question....So the felts need to be lubed? Should I use a heavy oil or go with grease? Sorry for all the questions but this stuff isn't in my shop manual!

Take the cotters out of the tube and push all the stuff out. Then put new cotter pins in the tube, Put the springs in each end, followed by the felts and some durable lube (I used lithium based grease). The seals on on the ball studs before you re-install the tube. The seals help keep the grease in and the dirt out. The exact order is covered in the FSM.

Yours were apparently put together wrong.
