Hey there everyone... Maybe someone can given some insight to my drum situation. In jeep now is 1973 commando centre flanged d44 and stock 11" drum backing plates. I have a scout 44 with brand new shoes/springs and drums... Bendix 11" is bendix!!? Anyways I widen drum hole to fit fater flange of commando... All good there shoes lined up, spring/ p bake seems cool! P brake cross bar just needed trimming to miss back side of lug studs.... I guess different offset.

Question... While driving I hear a bit of drum drag... Rest hydraulic not hooked up yet! Also on jack stands rear axles has a bit of resistance to turn.,, is this typical for drums!?
    Thanks j

Measure the shoe width and I bet you will find your issue. Iirc Scout 2 used two different shoe widths, 1 3/4" and 2 1/8" wide and both were 11" diameter. If yours is from an earlier Scout then not sure as they should interchange pretty readily.

Thanks a lot the feedback on this site awesome! Yah pads are the 21/8 later style I guess. I try putting a bit of puddy to see what shoe to drum clearance is! Being cheap doesn't always work out.
    Thanks j

I have swapped similar brake assemblies, but prefer to use backing plates and drums that came from the same set. You might get lucky mixing and matching, but often the backing plates have differing offsets from different applications.

I know I would of preferred to also use scout backing plate ... But to my surprise commando plate carries axle oil deal and removing it seems like opening pandroa 's box!

Can't remember where you are in Ontario but I have some good used 11" drums from a Commando if you want them, might even have a set of brake shoes or I can get you the part number. They're pretty common

Hey there Pack Rat.. many thanks for the hook up on those axles! All good, much appreciated also the offer for commando brake stuff. I havent given up on the scout commmando drum brake hybrid just yet. Ive had the new scout parts kickin around for all most 10yrs, so this commando d44 i think is the closest the scout parts will get to living on dana 44... so they better start getting along!! ;P

Hey any chance do you check out the posting on kiliji ont for the 1974 cj 5 in windsor??

Oh ya, rainy morning, Tim Hortons parking lot, now I remember :p.
Have not seen that CJ. To stay out of trouble with the wife I try to limit my searches to Jeepster/Commando stuff ;).
