79 CJ 5 Electrical

Hi guys,

So I was working on my jeep and had all lights working on it, the horn, the wipers, the radio, and pretty much everything and next thing you know all I have is running lights and sometimes directionals. Could this be because the solenoid is shot?

Nope! Solenoid relates to the starter only. What other work was you doing to the jeep? Sounds like you may have removed or broke a ground wire somewhere.

 

Does that year have a circuit breaker on the headlight switch? Possibly related, might be overloaded. Could try bypassing it.

 

On my buddy's 76 CJ the lights/signals worked when they wanted to and we traced the issue down to the bulkhead connector having a poor main hot feed into the fusebox. Disassembled it and cleaned everything and it's been working flawlessly since including the volt gauge on the dash!

 

X2 this is the most logical cause. Plugins (flat spade types) are the worst.
