A while back, after I finished my restoration, I posted the question about my engine cutting out at high speeds. I will be cruising down the road in 3rd gear and all of a sudden, without warning, the engine will just die. As I start to coast to the side of the road, it springs back to life as if nothing happened. I thought the problem was electrical because of how sudden it happens -- no sputtering or anything. I was thinking ignition problem. But I did notice that it only seems to happen after the engine is hot.

The other day I'm driving and it happens. But this time, it didn't spring back to life. I pull over and try to start it...nothing. But I'm smelling gas. Try starting it several times while pumping the accelerator but no luck. Finally, I tried it with the choke and it fired right up. Seems like vapor lock to me. It was an exceptionally hot day and I had been driving it for over an hour.

I do have a cheap repop fuel pump and I scored an original rebuilt one (with the glass bowl and vacuum ports -- hard to find!) Have not installed it yet but maybe...hopefully that will solve the problem. Stay tuned.

Mine did that and it was caused by a non vented gas cap.

Or plugged intake in the tank. Have never experienced vapor lock in a jeep.

Once I replace the Omix-Ada fuel pump with the NOS I'm hoping the problem goes away. I do not think my cap is vented so I may try that as well.

If your cap is not vented it should release a bit of pressure if opened on a hot day.

In this NOS pump, is the diaphragm NOS as well? If so, it won't last very long if you're running ethanol gas.
