I imagine a lot of you guys already do this, but I have read a couple things about pouring fuel down the carb and long cranking times to get new and dormant engines to prime up and take fuel. FWIW, this is what works right. Almost all older carburators will have a vent tube sticking up or a little horn built into the inside edge of the mouth of the carb to serve as a bowl vent. I poke a tiny hole on the bottom of an aluminum can right on the bevel, put about as much fuel in the can as the bowl might hold, and then use the tiny stream of fuel to fill the bowl through the vent tube. This way you do not have raw fuel pouring in the cylinders, and as far as the carb knows you just shut the engine off. You then put the filter back on to eliminate backfires and pesky fire-related problems, and it's ready to run. The fuel in the bowl will get the engine running right off the bat and give it plenty of time to let the fuel pump do it's thing. I have been playing with old, dead cars for about 40 years now but I'm completely new to the Jeep world so I only have so many useful things I can tell you guys, so when I was lighting up the old Dodge in the classifieds I grabbed a quick pic. Mopars are no stranger to draining the fuel back and not wanting to start, this one sat about a year and a half, it fired up like you had just shut it off. [IMG]

    Great tip.

Would you say that's premium and a diet can is regular?

Yeah, that's pretty much it. Beer cans work fine too, but when dealing with gasoline it's always best to use the first one, as opposed to the twenty-fourth!
