'67 Dauntless Crossmember Help

    My transmission and transfer case mounts are shot or nonexistent. I ordered new parts and took it apart.

    After looking through my resources with no diagrams, I have some questions.

    The new transmission mount doesn't look like the old one. Could the old one have deteriorated so much that it collapsed in to itself or is there another one available?

    It mounts to this factory looking steel plate that moves it rearward.

    Except for the picture being rotated 90*, this is the transfer case mount. It doesn't look factory, looks like someone made a bracket and used some washers.

    Is this the correct transfer case mount? It's what a vendor sent me by application. The parts lists for "insulators" I have shows PN's 941400 for the V6 and 926671 for the I4. It appears to separate in the center which I assume splits on the cross member. I would be inclined to put the "bell" side against the transfer case. Is that correct?

    Here's what the "rigged" transfer case mount did to the cross member. My plan is to mock up the correct parts and weld a piece of metal in to the area that's hogged out.

    Everything looks proper except that big hole in the cross-member. Yep I would weld a plate there and re-drill the hole the proper size for the bolt.

    image.jpeg I got the crossmember mocked up Monday night withe correct parts and figured out where the transfer case mount needed to be. Welded it up today. Hope to get it painted before the weekend and reassemble it over the weekend.

    Looks exactly like mine did. With all the various drive train combinations the factory was notorious for cobbling together whatever parts they had around to make it work.

    Hi. Just read your posts and I'm in the same boat right now. Im putting a 1966 225 dauntless into a 65 CJ6 that had the I4 in it. I'm mounting a T86 trans/D18 to a t90 crossmember. I bought the same trans mount as you did but it doesn't line up with the holes in the crossmember and the t-case mount gap is way to big for the insulator that I have. Can u take a pic of the crossmember mounted to everything ??
    I don't seem to have an offset bracket on the T-case mount ??

    On the trans mount, there's a 1/4" offset plate mounted to the trans that the mount attaches to (shown in pic above). I will have it put together later today and get some pics of the finished product.

    From what I've learned, that isolator block is for the 4 cyl models only. The 6 cyl models use a square rubber mount sandwiched between two steel plates (like a small motor mount) that attaches to the frame. There's a dogleg bracket that fastens to the mount and the transfer case.
    This is how my V6 is assembled. I've seen the same configuration on a couple other vehicles.

    Nice thanks. I have the same trans mount which is the same size as the one I took off but no offset bracket for the transfer case mount ?? I also don't have the original crossmember so the holes r drilled in the wrong spot......So what I needed is a measurement as to where to drill the holes in the crossmember to aline my trans/tcase between the frame rails so I can weld in the engine frame mounts for the v6. Is that a t86 and d18 ? Did u buy or make the offset bracket for the t-case ?

    The offset mount was already on the car with what was left of the transfer case insulator bolt and had a stack of washers on it. I'm not knowledgeable enough to discern which trans and transfer case it has but it is original to '67. It may be a few days before I can get back to it to get some measurements on the placement of the hole.

    Give a sec and I'll run out in the garage and take photos of mine with a tape.

    tape aligned with the holes on the outer edge, 1" and 12" on center

    My 70 v6 donor had the bushing inside the frame rail....exact same bushing as the pass side motor mount for the 4 cyl lol

    Actually using my original motor mount as it's in better shape than the V6 tcase bushing

    I have photos.... Somewhere. This thing had 40 years of mud, field straw, ddt, grease, garlon, who knows what else stuck to it.

    Give me a bit to looksee what i can find...

    After scrolling thru hundreds, these were the best I could find... and they don't really help you much from what I can tell.

    Here is a good shot of how its offset, not what you might think.I think its offset to compensate for the weight of the transfer case

    I saw another post that showed that same mount set up on a frame. Looks easy enough to make one up.. I guess I could do it either way since I have nothing right now. My trans mount setup is the same as Alan F . But what I need to know is where to drill the holes in the crossmember for the mount, to align the trans between the rails ??

    about 11.5 and 16.5" from pass side frame for v6 cross member, the two outside holes, anyway

    Mount inside frame rail....original 4 cyl had big bushing directly on tcase, no "S" bracket or whatever
