You should have re-geared the cable for a 180mph speedometer!

Yesterday my alternator started going out just as I was doing my 42 mile trip home . It had enough after using my Inverter , I reckon . Had to come back in ' Limp Home mode ', but she got us there. Should I... R & R (rebuild ) my alternator? . Decided to take it to a Local shop uptown . He had it back to me in one day , upgraded to 120 amp , for $100. New one of this caliber would have cost ~ $400 . Put in back in this mornin' & she's back to doing Service calls this afternoon. :bananatool:

Changing out the speedometer on the JC , and using this opportunity to tighten up and lubricate heater controls, wiper linkage, clutch linkage etc under the dash. You can really tell this thing was parked in the desert for a long time, everything is dried out and stiff.

I washed it, spiffed it up, took a bunch of photos for my insurance agent, so I can increase its insured value. I'm going from $10K to $15K.
I have State Farm with a classic antique policy...great value for old vehicles!
Sorry, but I'm about out of photo space, so no pix here.

Wife retired from a State Farm office a few yrs back and she said that the classic antique policy would limit the use drastically in VA. Don't know about Colorado?

I hesitate to make such comments, as all states are different.
In CO, if you opt into uninsured motorist, the entire premium is tacked onto one policy, unlike KS & UT where it's shared by all your vehicles. My CJ policy has always been a bargain in KS, UT & CO. (y)

Looks like that CJ is pushing that truck down the road quite well.

20240224_103309.jpg 20240224_103239.jpg Awhile back I picked up a parking brake handle from another member here. That, and a new cable from Jeepsterman and the Commando has a functional parking brake!

Then went to my dad's house this afternoon, and helped him take the Acme hardtop off his CJ, in preparation for painting. This is the 1st time I've seen this Jeep without the hardtop since dad put it on in the late 80's.

I drove it! Thanks to all the members on this board for your knowledge and passion! It starts, stops, and drives on her own power. First time I can say that since I got it! ‘71 with a gm 4.3 sm465 D18 3.73 open axles. The throttle is a little sensitive and the front end came off the ground in second gear.
Alternator isn’t charging so the maiden voyage was cut short. 3 miles full of smiles :)
