speaking of wiring, does anyone have a good diagram for a 1975? I am rebuilding my dash and I found an incredible mess. Wires taped, hanging and twisted together. I labeled as much as I could, but now it is worthless, as wires fell off etc.

I have power to the ammeter, but that's it.

oh did I mention that the engine was converted to 1990 4.0 FI from a cherokee. Now I had it all running before I took out the guages and everything fell apart.

    Thanks in advance!

    well....I like a challenge...........
    a 75 diagram probably won't help
and a 90 will only work for the engine
so throw color coding out with the dishwater !
patience and tracing the wiring seems to me to be the only way
guages are simple; oil, temp, and fuel sender wires coming in from somewhere; simply trace them; ammeter sounds like you have that covered
keyed 12v in to the guage cluster for cluster gauges; transfer bar carries the load over to the other gauge
one of the gauges has built in volt regualor; can't remember which one, temp gauge?
indicator (dash) lights are all thats left
anyway, you can figure this out
not as overwhelming at it first seems IMO
of course, the engine wiring would be easier with the correct diagram; has this been affected also?

Depending on how Non-Original your dash and cab are, I'd consider starting over inside the cab (particularly beneath the dash). I did a rewire on a '75 using a Painless Kit cause my wiring was such a rats nest - there were 6 taps into the hot wire that ran the blower motor for the heater...

The dash is NOT that complicated as long as you don't need to completely rewire the turn signals. That gets complicated. If your rig is basically stock inside, just follow Jims directions and back trace things. Failing that, start with a wiring diagram in a chiltons/haynes/fsm... I used all of these, in conjunction with my Painless information, to rewire my mess.

If you have specific questions, be sure to ask...

My recomendation is to first purchase the Chilton's manual. My Chilton's has many miles on it from looking at the wiring diagrams. I wish I had it on digits so I could send it to you but I don't. You should be able to find them at most auto parts stores for about $20.

I had to rewire my Jeep and this manual came in handy.

Thanks for the tips guys! The engine wiring with ECM module is unaffected and has been kept separate for the most part from the rest of the system. I have the chitons, and it has been a huge help, but it does not tell me destinations for the ignition switch. The switch has three or four wires, but I cannot identify where each should be run. Also I am sure the power wire should go to a specific connection on the switch. I will be using logic and tracing them back as suggested.

I am not concerned with the guages, I bought all new Autometer and will wire them independant. I put a new Flexlite mojave heater in, and that will be independant as well.

thanks for the help, this board is great! I posted a few times last spring and you all were very helpful.

The hot wire to the ignition switch goes to the center of the ignition switch. There are 4 or 5 spades around a single, center spade. The center one is hot. (assuming we have similar switches...)
