I just use a shaft out of an old distributor with the cam gear turned down but there are also Lisle shafts at most tool stores that are specifically made just for spinning the oil pump.

I took a 3/4" wood paddle bit and ground the point off. Have to be sure to hold it straight and centered. Works for me. Have used it several times. Be sure to rotate the pump shaft clock wise as you look down onto it.

Made one out of some 3/8" round stock I had on hand. I also found some rubber tubing that the ID would slip over the pump shaft. This keeps it from camming out. Just make sure the rubber is long enough that there is no chance of it falling off into the housing. You would not like that!
