How To Get Engine Back In?

I got a 1965 CJ5 Jeep from my grandpa and I've been trying to fix it up and make it run. It needed cylinder work, so I stripped the whole thing down and gave the block to the machine shop. I just got it back a few days ago, but I can't get it back in. I can't quite manage to get it onto the mounts and connect with the shaft inside of the housing (I'm not exactly sure what it is). I am by no means an expert, but I really want to get this thing running, and this looks like the place to learn how! Any help would be greatly appreciated! I can post pictures if that would help.

    Thanks,
    Noah

Unbolt the motor mounts from the frame and slip them in as soon as you get the bellhousing and motor together. Helps to have a jack under the bell to tip the transmission up a bit.

Rotate crank a bit to align spines on trans.

Did you pull the grill and radiator off? it makes it a lot easier, only 9 bolts. Good luck

Two bolts about 6 inches long with about 4 inches of smooth shank. Cut the heads off and insert the bolts into the block to align the two top holes of the bell-housing. This will aid in the alignment a great deal. Above ideas are good also.

Also put trans in a gear so shaft won't just rotate. I used a couple of old long center punches I had to align each side of block and bell housing. I did it as a one person and it was a pain. Had to jiggle and wiggle and walk away several times. Suggestions On Stabbing Engine

Did you use a "dummy shaft" (alignment stub) to center the clutch disc when you installed the clutch on the flywheel? That reduced diameter on the end of the transmission input shaft has to line up with the pilot bushing pressed in the end of the crankshaft, at the same time the splines line up in the clutch disc.
If all the above is correct, then be sure to keep the engine exactly parallel with the transmission/bellhousing when mating together. I find it much easier to keep the bellhousing with the transmission when assembling, rather than the bellhousing on the engine, and trying to mate the trans to the engine/bellhousing.
