I assume there will be a relief for the cam in the hinge of the door to be a flat table, but it looks like the relief would be where you need materfor the cam to work.

And bless your hearts. That's a good album but geeze that's a lot of drumming. It's a shame the band grew up and the tone went sour.

The piano hinge is ~3/16” thick when closed. I made the cam out of angle iron and ground it to just fit in there and still have enough of a lip to use as a handle to turn it.

One coat of Kilz 3 and two topcoats of light gray on the walls. That was dreadful.

And here’s the bedroom since I got the platform carpeted with some scraps from our house.

I think the kitchen countertop will be next. I found a blue/gray scrap of laminate in my stash that should be big enough. The existing top is cupped horribly from water damage, and the gold T-molding isn’t really fitting in with the decor.

Looking good! Walls had to be 99% prep, 1% actual paint?

You nailed it. Days of scraping, sanding, filling holes, removing trim, repairing water damage... then a few hours of paint.

The contact paper was wrinkled in places. It flaked off if you’d scrape it. I hit it with the sander, and that would inadvertently heat it, it would get gummy, and some of it would lay back down flat. So I had the bright idea of hitting it with an iron. BIG MISTAKE. It liquified, stuck to the iron, and by the time I got it out the door, black smoke was pouring off of it, almost in flames. These things are such death traps. I’m happy to get a coating of less-flammable paint over the walls.

This is turning into kinda a 2nd hand deja vu project - our first RV was a Class C that I stored outdoors one winter and had a roof leak. We did a new roof (plywood then EPDM), new dinette, new couch, new flooring in the living area, repainted all the walls, new front seats, new carpet in the driving area, and a bunch of other work that I've tried hard to forget.

When it was all done I realized it would never be worth as much as it was right that moment, so slapped a For Sale sign on it and swore I'd never own an RV again.

    Now I'm building #5....:whistle::shrug:

Yeah, I’m trying hard to not step over the fine line between livable and overboard.

I really do hate these cabinets, but I know replacing them would be going too far.

I lived my first 8 years in a trailer while we built our house next to it. I’m having flashbacks of some of the shoddy materials issues we dealt with back then. Pulling on a drawer to open it and the face would pop off, rain filling the light fixtures with water, jumping on a bed and a leg would poke through the floor... good times!

I think somewhere back in this thread, I mentioned you changing the cabinets, and your response was basically "never gonna happen", looks like your getting closer :ninja:

Another major job checked off the list. The kitchen counter was such a disaster. It was horribly cupped, and the gold T-molding around the edge was gaudy as heck.

As I tore it out, I was seeing how involved this job was going to be. I won’t go into too much detail, but nothing was flat, square, or level.

I ran to Lowe’s and found out they no longer carry sheets of laminate in stock. They used to have a small selection of some basic colors for $60/sheet. So that meant I was stuck ordering something custom for $110+, plus $30 for a sheet of particle board. :banghead:
I gripped the particle board and headed home to see what I could find online.

After an hour of searching, I was no further ahead. Then my wife suggested one of the Habitat for Humanity stores. I called a few of them, and the one in Spokane said they had some sheets of laminate. It was worth a shot.

They ended up having a full 4x8’ roll of a light brown for $5!! Score!

I got the particle board all cut out, the underside prepped with blocking, and started applying the glue...

A few hours later it was in. It made such a huge difference in there.

Also, we ordered some new LED taillights, and I got them installed. They are crazy bright.

The only thing I have left on my list is the curtains. I have my fabric amounts tallied up; I just need to make it out to Joanne’s.

I’ve been sewing for a week+ straight, and I’m FINALLY done with the curtains. 14 yards of fabric, and nearly 500 yds of thread.

I set up a sewing table in the bedroom from an old door and sawhorses.

These are the tie-backs. The longer ones will get snapped to the walls, and the shorter ones are for the little upper side windows and will just get screwed fast.

I’ll get some pics when I get everything installed.

    Curtains are up.

I’m not done though. I don’t like how they look; I’m going to grab another yard of fabric and make some valances to cover the rods and tops of the blinds, and to tie the sides together visually.

I popped the dummy panels out of the cabinets and covered them in leftover fabric for more accents, too.

    Looking good! You're ambitious!

I've thought of adding ceiling to floor curtains just behind our dinette to help retain cold/warmth while traveling for the comfort of the passengers sitting in that area. No need to try to heat/cool the whole space when only the front portion is occupied.

That’s a good idea to isolate the temps. Ours has an accordion-style door(?) next to the sink that blocks off the back half of the house. I’ll have to remember to close that when the time comes.
    Sleep is over rated.

After several more trips to Joanne’s, I FINALLY got these curtains finished.

I picked up a $30 DVD player at Best Buy, and I made discreet mounts for that, and for an Apple TV facing forward under the cabinet above the sink.

I cleaned up the wiring too. There’s only one duplex in that area, and with three components, I didn’t want to constantly be playing musical cords and have them dangling down. I put a new 2-gang box inside the cabinet, and drilled some holes in the cabinets to run the cords.

This thing is basically done, ready for the season. Now I can finally move it outside and get my shop back!

But wait, I see wallpaper on the inside of that cabinet! Surely you can't leave it like this!

    Just kidding, it's looking great!

That’s in the kitchen area. I left the floral pattern in the kitchen for contrast. (y)
