What Air Cleaner Fits This 2g?

I scavenged an intake manifold and 2G carb off of an old Dauntless V6 to put on my '70 CJ5. My jeep had an aftermarket 4 bbl intake. The casting number on the old V6, according to the V6 database, says it belongs to a 1967-74 225 V6, Odd-Fire, Kaiser Jeep Corp.

Here's the removed manifold and 2G carburetor.

The carburetor tag was still on the carb.

I found two references on Mike's Carburetor to that number. One said the carb belongs to a '65-'66 Jeep. Another reference said it belonged to a "BUICK 1968 LESABRE, SPECIAL 350 CANADA". I ordered the appropriate rebuild kit and rebuilt the rusty carb.

Miraculously, when I installed the cleaned up intake manifold and carburetor, the motor started up and ran well.

The question is, what kind of air cleaner fits this carburetor? The carb doesn't have the normal casting for a stud and wingnut.

Question number two. The choke doesn't seem setup for a typical manual choke cable. On the 2G's I've seen with a manual choke, there's a cable clamp on the driver's side of the carb on this little choke arm:

Here's the passenger side of the choke. Does something go here to engage the choke? That rusted fitting spins freely on the choke shaft.

The stock air cleaner needs a spacer, about 2 5/8" diameter. The 2g you have does not look like a dauntless version, but no reason it can't be made to work. Someone was selling reproduction versions of the spacer on ebay at one time, I don't know if they still are. Also your throttle linkage connection is missing the "reversed 7" shaped extension. See my photos.

Yes it needs a spacer, but my carb has no provision for the center threaded rod to hold down the air cleaner.

Twin2 has it right. Wire bail type set-up.
And that wasn't a Jeep version as mentioned.
You may not need the aluminum spacer Jeep used if you find the right type GM air cleaner.

I was going to order a
but it would have been about twenty-five buck with shipping. I decided to try and homebrew a wire bracket like on Twin2's carb. I made one out of a 3/16" steel rod. The ends of the rod bend 90 degrees and fit through holes in the sides of the carburetor throat. I made a loop in the steel rod by heating it red hot with a torch, then wrapping the softened metal around the tang of a screwdriver. Then I tack welded a bolt in the loop.

I installed a gasket and a spacer and then tightened down the air cleaner with a wing nut. It won't win any machining trophies, but it was cheap, simple, and easy.

If it works, it works. Nothing wrong with that.
