After 11 years or so I finally had the engine running. I removed the carb to clean it out because it sat all those years. I rebuilt it 11 years ago because it was full of rust. The carb is a R40214 or holley 2280. I am not sure I have a clean enough passage in the bottom well for the accelerator pump. Everything else is clean. If I can't get the passage clean I will have to look for another carb.

I am going to use a manual choke. I don't want to change the air cleaner.

Should I look for a Carter BBD 2 barrel, another holley 2280 or should I use something else?

    Any suggestions?

What year are you working on? The intakes did change over the years.

Yes, a 2100 is the large 2bbl bolt pattern like a Holley 2300 series.

This is the intake manifold on the motor. The block casting numbers ID it as a 1974 258. The intake bolt pattern is 1-7/8 x 3-1/4. It had a holley 2280 on the manifold. The main body has blockages. I like the look of the original air cleaner cover. But it won't fit over the Ford 2100.

I have a '77 j10 with a 258 that I was having alot of problems with the stock carb. I think it was the motor craft. I had a used Rochester 2jet sitting on the shelf, so I tried that. Works great still 3 years later, and sits for extended periods of time. I would do it again in a heartbeat!
If I remember correctly , you'll have to be a little creative with the accelerator linkage, and odds and ends, but the carb will bolt right on.

    No problem.
I was even able to run the stock air cleaner.
