Rear Bearing Cap Seal 225-v6?

    I'm reassembling my Dauntless and have a question about the rear bearing cap side seals. First, I had a bitch of a time trying to get the nail installed. Took a couple tries. Had to cut down the long ones that came in the kit. When I was all done, it "looked" OK but I'm not 100% confident in it. I read a couple of posts here where RTV was used instead of the rubber seal. Anyone have long term experience with the RTV?
