Wide 16" Wheels

Well, not really wide, but at 5 3/4" you could run something like a 235/85R16.
Most of the repro wheels I've seen are very narrow.

I asked them why not DOT approved and got this response-

They are made like the originals and neither were the originals. Nobody ever went through the process to get them DOT approved. In my opinion they are fine, they are just like your originals

 

If this is truly a concern, get an answer from your insurance agent.
Although, that still may not be a fully accurate insight.

 

Thats the LAST thing I'd do, I'm sure you'd just get a CYA legalese answer.

 

Yeah - no argument here. Using these rims is on the owner. Make sure your PLUP is paid up!

If they are truly made like the original Willys wheels, then they have no safety bead on the wheel. That would be enough to not receive DOT certification. Back when Willys was installing these wheels, I doubt the Dept of Transportation existed.

 

Nope, Doug isn't selling anything.
And the last thing I would do is tell my insurance anything is wrong with my vehicle. That's like telling the cop you were speeding as you open the door to the donut shop.
