hey yall - my blinkers recently stopped working (1971 Renegade 1) and I'm trying to come up with some good logic to trace back to the issue. I just swapped the flasher relay with a new unit and no luck. There was also another two-prong 12v relay under the dash that I replaced, but that wasn't it either (what's this one for? maybe hazards?).

Headlights work, tail lights work, but brake lights and flashers dont. Any good places to start? Maybe checking grounds (if so is there a good guide for where they all are?), cleaning inside the turn signal unit, anything else?

    Thanks!

The turn signal switch disconnects the brake lights for signaling. Try troubleshooting that unit.

    Yep.

If the problem is equally on both sides, you should look for a centralized cause.

But good grounds and clean contacts are always important.

Are there any critical grounds that could impact the whole blinker operation. i.e. front signals have a bad ground which could screw up everything else operating?

I forgot about those "dumb" pressure switches. Those have electrical contacts prone to corrosion since they're mounted on the frame.
Another advantage to a hanging pedal swap so that switch is inside the cabin now.

Check the bullet plugs by the heater under the hood, they corrode and stop working, it may be as simple as that. My turn signals quit working all I had to do was take them apart and sandpaper the plugs and put them back together. Good luck.

Is that inline ahead of the flasher relay? I might need to check that too as my hazards don't work.

    Yes, it's before the flasher.
