Get some 1/4" garbage. Its way way easier to learn how to weld on thicker stuff.

12ga is as thick as we go for mild steel production parts at work. That and my garage only has a single 120v 20a line from the house, 1/4 is the max for a single pass on the machine and it's recommended to have a 25a breaker.
I've found a few videos from forney specifically for this machine but it seems like prep is the big issue.

I'll ask maintenance if there are any projects coming up and to set heavy scrap to the side. This welder can run off of a 4k generator so a generator that is 30TT ready will move higher on the list of things.

I'm not an authority but echoing the others better prep, turn up the heat and feed down slightly. It's not necessary to full length weld those box plates. 4-5 1" or so welds spaced out per edge is plenty, maybe even better to keep from making the base metal brittle on these Jeeps.
These 120v. welders are sensitive to line voltage loss, if you only have the single outlet from the house, your machine will be fussy.

Watched a video, Did some practice then ground the v's and redid the frame. It's solid. There will be more over this and the spacers at the bolt holes. I also needed to get the torch angled better, more heat.

I bought the same machine just before yo started this thread. Finally got all my stuff together and had a bit of time to play with it this afternoon.
Thanks to you and all the replies, it seems like I got a little bit of a head start.
Bought some 3/16 flat stock and just messed around a bit for about a half hour.
Definitely had to adjust wire speed. Machine says 9/9 for voltage/wire speed but I turned the speed down to 5.
A bit more practice and then on to the frame crack!
You can see some of my practice runs before I tried to stick anything together.
Inside corners are definitely harder than outside!
    Thanks again!

I'm glad it helps. This machine definitely works a little different than my old machine with four settings and burnt out switches.

Cleaning the surface and grinding the V definitely makes a difference with this one. Getting the nozzle square also helps. I had mine laid over pretty far which was causing issues.
