I'm chipping away at things I need to fix on my 1971 CJ and I'm now down to the turn signals not working. Here's what I know:

    • I believe they worked when I bought the Jeep a year ago, but now stopped for some reason
    • When I press the brakes, the brake lights work
    • When I switch the signal with the brakes on, the brake light turns off on the appropriate side
    • When tracing back power to the signal realy, I don't seem to have power feeding in
      • Signal relay wiring as I understand it: Black/White go into the signal switch, Red is the Positive (is this correct?)
    • In looking at the relay, the red wire has a hacked in inline fuse - fuse seems fine, but the wire terminates to a ring connector that looks taped off for some reason. If this is the positive into the blinker realy, it would need to be connected to something. Where should this wire into the main harness? Somewhere through the ignition I assume? If so, any suggestions?

I'm hoping that I'm on the right path here and it seems like hopefully an easy fix, but please chime in with any input if possible! thanks!

interesting - so number 1 there is my flasher realy. I should have two wires coming from the harness on the steering column (I do), and one wire going somewhere else (I do, but it's not connected).

I'm thinking that I need to get that rogue wire into the ignition harness somehow - there should be a factory spot for this I assume? That would be the next helpful piece of info if I can find it somehow.

Ok cool this helps a ton. I just need to decide if the wire to the ignition should be to the aux input or wired into the starter. I’m thinking starter since you won’t need blinkers if you aren’t actually driving.

I'm thinking ignition "run" circuit, not starter.

Yea that’s what I meant. Apologies.
Coincidentally I found a wire coming off the run circuit with a disconnection so I’m thinking maybe that’s the culprit. Going to attach them today and see what happens.

Update: wiring the the third wire into the ignition solved my problem. I’ve got working signals! (For now ha!).
Thanks all for the help! Now to fix the four way flasher…
