For those here who don’t visit the classified section (and who doesn’t, I wonder), I posted a link to a CL ad that I found for a modified intermediate frame with axles, wheels & tires.

The tires are new Mickey Thomson (Thompson?) 33x12.5x15, on new American Racing alloy wheels (8-9 inches wide). Axles are D44/D30 with 11” drum brakes. Springs are near new, with 3-4” lift. Shocks are newer Skyjacker (I think).

The ad stayed up for 8-10 days with no buyer. Even after spending over $7500 to insulate my shop and buying a ‘68 CJ5 in Colorado, my wife gave me the go-ahead to pursue this thing.

Today, I met up with the seller, three hours from my house. After some looking, touching, poking and prodding, we haggled on the price. The ad stated $1600 obo; I started at $1200. We agreed to $1350. The poking and prodding determined that the axles are 4.27:1 and the rear has a limited slip or locker. It’s NOT welded or a spool, as the inside wheel can turn slower when pivoting on the rear axle. Front is open but that’s OK.

    I think I got a good deal.
