This fuel cap is sold as Duralast 5783 at Autozone, MGC-783 at Amazon, Masterpro 5783 at Oreilly's, & BK 7031842 at NAPA. They are all the exact same cap made by Motorad. They all list it as working on my '71 rear tank filler. The fact is they do NOT properly fit the rear tank opening of a 1971 CJ5, and I suspect they don't fit properly in the '72-75 intermediates either.

These caps are made for a filler opening of 1 3/8". The filler opening on my '71 is 1 1/2". These caps will go in and click to make you think they work properly, but if they get bounced a little they will FALL OUT. DAMHIK.

My old locking cap was made by Gates. Its' rubber seal dried out. It fits properly in the opening. After giving up on finding a new cap that fit properly I just cut a new rubber seal for my old one. It is made of flat sheet material.

Apparently the Gates 31691 is still being sold BUT you have to verify with a picture because some companies are selling the motorad as a crossover.

If my homemade seal doesn't work I will get a new gates.
