Anyone interested in a 1953 Vincent Rapide motorcycle? (Close cousin to the the infamous Black Shadow model.)

Friend of mine passed away, and a Vincent Rapide is going to be sold, but has not been advertised yet.

"Motorcycles produced by Vincent H·R·D at their factory in Stevenage, Hertfordshire, England were renowned for their design innovation, engineering excellence and high performance." Before the Black Shadow version, the 110mph Rapide was advertised as "The world's fastest production motorcycle."

This 1000cc Vincent is all original and complete, and unrestored. Running when put away, but has been collecting dust for several decades.

Price will be $20,000-plus. PM me to set up contact info.

It's a monster of a machine, an icon of "ton-up" speed back when bikes were built to last. He and his wife toured Europe on it when they were young, "sleeping on bus station floors."

Cleaned up, it would look something like this...

That's definitely a wish I could own item.
The only thing I would change in the one pictured is the seat, that one just looks like a giant shoe resting on the fender.

I used to know Big Sid (Biberman) back in the 1980’s. I was buying Norton parts, and didn’t realize who he was, until he took me into his back shop to help him roll out a Vincent he was just finishing a restoration on. He had 6 or 7 more still undergoing restorations, from all over the world. He was a huge guy, but rode those Vincents around the front lot like they were little dirt bikes. 5’ wheelies, power slides, and thought nothing of it. When talking with him, he had a real bad stutter, until you got him talking about his projects. Amazing guy, amazing bikes!

When I knew Sid, he was a bit bigger (in the backside) and in probably mid-50’s age-wise. He was happy to demonstrate those huge wheelies out in his front parking lot right along Virginia Beach Blvd in Norfolk. His power-slides were equally impressive, laying the bikes over almost to the footpegs for a 180 U-turn, followed by the wheelie.
    Great memories!
