I'm trying to catch up on getting my 74 CJ-6 buttoned up and the small details I've been putting off finally done. I noticed the blower motor wasn't working so I began trying to fix that. The two positions switch had a terminal snapped off. So I ordered a new one from Barney's. Then I pulled the blower fan out (and yes, the cardboard glove box finally gave way) to give it a bench test and could not get it to spin.

My question is, the motor has only two wires and I assume that each is a variable speed wire and the motor chassis is the ground ?? Or am I wrong? So if I apply a ground to one of the studs holding the motor halves together and apply a power supply to one wire, should it not spin? Or does power need to be supplied in series with a two position switch ?
Any help would be appreciated. I can rebuild tranny's and transfer cases, motors, etc, but these dang little things drive me nuts. Now you know why in three years I haven't messed with it. Thanks

This is strictly a guess on my part as I do not have the motor to look at and the replacement motors listed at various sites, indicate the motor should have multiple leads. The drawing provided by Ol Fogie supports this as it shows 3 leads and none are connected to the motor chassis for the ground. The motor you describe sounds like it is for an earlier CJ, say a 1970 for example. Again, strictly guessing but replacement motors aren't very expensive so if it were me, I would buy a replacement.

That's what I was thinking. I knew the two wires were for high and low, but didn't know if power had to come from the switch or if I could test the motor by grounding the chassis.

The motors are somewhat generic. Like many others, I used a '73 Blazer part to upgrade my '88YJ heater - works great.
