Hi, I thought sure I posted my '76 Ford Tractor rebuild on here? couldn't find it, but 2021 I "restored" my late fathers '76 Ford 2600 Tractor. Amongst everything else, the injector pump was gummed up really badly.
I had Mike, Thepumpguysc overhaul it and it worked great for a while.

He told me from the beginning to use the best diesel fuel and additive, but did I?

He said as soon as he opened up the package, he could smell biofuel and that's bad! He said it was gummed up so badly, he had to do a complete tear down. The tractor only has about 4 hours on it since the restoration in 2021.

Here he was just cleaning up a superficial part, but eventually tore down completely.

I did install a new gas tank, new fuel filter, new injectors. So, what's a good diesel fuel additive to preserve the fuel and save me another pump overhaul in the future? or other advice?

I always had good luck with power service on my last diesel, although I never noticed any difference one way or another. Hot shots gets really good reviews too

oh, he also told me to wary of the diesel at the pump, look at the % of what they put in the fuel. Which I really know little of diesel fuel.

Another item to look at is the filter vents and cap. Make sure everything seals up well and filters fine.

    That's yore problem right thar!

Different additives types depend upon the temperatures or the season. In your climate, I think a bio-cide is recommended to prevent algae growth in the fuel. Winter anti-gel, not so much.

My father used this tractor at his carwash to spread bay dirt/sludge. It was covered with a tarp most of the time, it sat for months at a time, never failed to start. Something has changed~ yes, I don't run it very often, meh, try try again;)

Hot shots secret is all I use. It has the most lubricity to it. I tend to overtreat as well.

Better than an additive, #2 heating oil would work better than diesel since it still contains sulfur unlike the new diesel fuel.

None of the above seems to address bio-treatment, which my diesel mechanic says is important. ????

And is cold weather "gelling" an issue in Texas?

Yes Pete, I guess just choose the best offered, but I think I think my fuel is breaking down causing a sticky yucky buildup in the pump, I’m confused

    Bacterial-fungal-algeal "slime." ?

But I'm not a diesel guy. Talk to your local equipment operators.

Pump diesel should last a well over a year. I ran 15 year old diesel in my gen1 powerstroke and it ran fine.
I've used both power service and biobor with good results.
I run biodiesel in my trucks with great results, however, they never sit more than a month so I have no extended experience there.
