hello. in the process of sealing a T14 transmission. the transmission is out of the jeep and on a stand now, and I'm not putting back in until its all good this time around. it will never be easier than the present time to work on it.

of the 4 bolts that hold the drive shaft flange to the drum of the dana 18 transfer case, 1 has been broken off. I cant find much on replacement, but do i have to pull the drum off for access, or does the flange need to be separated from the drum to access the nuts and replace them?

You'll have to remove the big nut & take the drive flange off, the bolts go in from the back side. Good opportunity to re-seal the tcase output.

You want the ones with the shoulder/non threaded portion. Not the Kaiser Willys kit.

Those are just what you DO NOT WANT TO USE!!!!! Like lockout hubs/drive flanges, you want the full cross section (no threads) between the interface of the flange and the yoke. The major diameter of those common bolts is smaller than the shank on the factory fastener and a recipe for loosening/shearing. I don't know where those washers on the KW "kit" are supposed to go. There are none with the stock arrangement. Just another big reason you should be buying stuff from a reliable vendor.

How easy was suspiciously easy? It shouldn't necessarily be hard to get off.

Took the nut off with an impact, used 2 prybars, one on each side, and it popped off. Expected much more resistance, just based off of past experiences.

I put a good size blob of weld on a 2 sides of the bolt so it doesnt spun when you go to remove it in the future. Or a strap between two would also work just have to make sure it doesnt hit anything

Yes, these should be shouldered bolts in this location and can’t believe KW sells fully threaded bolts.
This output flange benefits from a smear of RTV on the splines when you install it. Maybe even a dab under the washer before the nut goes on. Otherwise, its a common leak. Gear oil can weep past the splines and from under the washer.

And check the shaft for slop while you have it off. Thats probably the #1 reason they leak

How many bolts are you needing? I think I may have an extra one from a D18 I have in the garage.

I think we also have a Fastenal here in Knoxville that I can go to for you if that would help. I haven’t been to it but happy to check it out if it would help
