Clutch Linkage For 350sbc To T14-74 Cj5

Any Ideas on how to make this work. There's a Novack adapter on the bellhousing connecting to a T14 (that's all I have right now). I figured that distance would be longer than stock but it's obviously way shorter. The inner bellcrank bracket also clashes with the oil filter and the bellhousing causes it to be misaligned.

I assumed the SBC was a common swap so I'm sure that you all know how this is done!

I'm stumped.

Swinging pedals, GM bell housing equals perfect time to go hydraulic. No more binding.

 

I don't know a lot about intermediate clutch linkages, but I do know that the T14 is not the strongest trans ever put in a Jeep.
Factory V8 CJ's got the T15 which is more robust.
Drive it with a very light right foot!

 

I agree that a good cost /labor comparison against a hydraulic clutch is justified.
I'm concerned that your sbc won't be in the exact location the kit expects.

I’m not familiar with how they work. Is there a “kit”. I don’t have PS does it need it?

 

Has nothing to do with PS. It's just a small master cylinder operated by the clutch pedal, and a slave cylinder that operates the clutch throwout arm.

 

The chain set-up is the "kit" personally I hate how it manages to incorporate everything possible into the clutch. Having the chain sprocket on the frame the pivot under the floor and the working end on the motor.
Any movement from body to frame and frame to bellhousing will affect the clutch.
The hydraulic clutch ties the body to the motor with a flexible hose and maybe some hard brake line. It's literally a mini hydraulic system like the brake system. Lots of aftermarket bits and pieces for the chevy then you just need a later jeep clutch pedal assembly and a proper size cylinder on the clutch fork.

 

I don't have any real useful suggestions. What I do have is a '74 w/AMC V8 and T15 if you'd like to compare to see if it prompts any ideas.

I'm relatively local - I work on 202 in DE.

 

Give some thought to going with a different transmission behind any small block Chevy larger than a 283. The T14 might hold up for a little while if the Jeep is used for ice cream runs.
