Hello. New to working on my in-laws cj5.
1968 with Dana 27. Does anyone know how to take the bearing that is outside the 2-1/16” axle nut off that has a small Allen bolt in it? Does it thread off? Thank you

Not sure what you talking about. the wheel brg nut? If so maybe it is the nut under the selectable locking hub. If so you will need to remove the tiny allen set screws before the nut will turn. it will then turn counter clockwise to remove, then remove the locking washer, then the big wheel brg adjusting nut and washer, then hub and brg assy can be removed from the spindle.

I'm thinking you have the special lock nuts that came with the warn "Lock-o-matic" hubs.

Pictures would sure help us. As ol fogie said back out the set screws that are in the round nut.

This is in the wrong forum. 1968 would be an early CJ5, not an intermediate which is '72-75.

The special drag nut used with Warn Lock o Matic hubs uses 1 or 2 small (5/32”?) allen grub screws the engage in a special lock washer between the axle nuts. There are usually 3 or 4 holes on the side of the drag nut. The two that are 180 degrees apart are not threaded and are used for a spanner wrench to turn the nut. The “other holes have the allen grub screw locking the nut. Yes, it threads off.
Close enough on the intermediate section as they used the Lock o Matics too.
