Nothing keeps the mice away like cats. I feel sorry for a mouse that gets around our house or garage. It will get pounced on and slowly tortured to death just for fun.
They are always on the job. One of our cats waits and gets moles in the yard.

But cats kill millions upon millions of wild birds.

Point taken. I hate that. I tell these cats all the time to just get the mice and moles. They say, "It's just so fun." I think most of the time the birds get away. I see the cat trying to get squirrels too.

When we had a cat we tried putting a bell on her. We noticed she started eating about three times as much kibble.

Unfortunately the carburetor housing had some damage. After reviewing the various military carburetor parts Pete had, we didn’t have enough to rebuild. Ordered this one on ebay. Now we can rebuild.

Looks like a great candidate Shaun. Last time you were here, I forgot to give you a nice choke bracket that I blasted a while back. Please remind me. No rush on this....It's a while away until it's needed but we're getting there bit by bit. Starting to wind down with tear down, except for pulling the engine out of the 58 CJ.

My 15lb Australian Shepard has plucked a bird or two out of the air. She'll break a wing in the process then the terrier will finish it.

Aussie's are great dogs with tremendous energy. Never had one myself but I've known a few and their very patient handlers. We have a male Jack and we're patient people too.

So a modest but significant upgrade in the shop. The blaster I've replaced was $25.00 used more than a decade ago and had it's limitations. It got the job done most of the time. Happy to have a new (used of course) unit made here in the USA that I can pick up the phone and speak to a human when I need parts, albeit unlikely. The shop vac came with it.

But my compressor has it's limitations. When it's this cold, condensation buildup is a bit of a problem. I did manage to give the new blaster a good shakedown and I'm happy with the purchase.....BUT, the media was soda mixed with big pieces of plastic and paper. How this 'mixed media' got in there I don't know but it wasn't fun cleaning the hopper out. I now have medium black diamond which is my traditional weapon of choice.

If you use Tractor Supply fine black diamond, it cuts remarkably well but leave a fine finish suitable for painting over with no other preparation.

x2, on the black diamond. Also aluminum oxide is a good long lasting but a bit more expensive media good for cleaning heavily rusted parts such as spring packs, draw bars, frames ect. leaves a rougher surface though.

For what we do, a rougher surface is ideal since jeeps were never meant to be perfect. I believe that the rougher surface gives more surface area for primers and paints to adhere to.

Nice parts fresh out of the blaster. Funny that there are two different kind of chains on the front lifting hook brackets. Perfect detail for the direction of a motor pool restoration.

Happy that the original battery trays are in nice shape. That will save me $75.00 each plus shipping. Yay!

There's also the chain for the seat pivots. 20230904_193250.jpg

To keep a cotter-pin hinge safety, am I right?

Going through some more boxes. Continuing with the inventory of poorly stored/neglected parts. Habitat for inhumanity, also known as mud daubers have invaded this very nice manifold which needs to be cleaned from the inside out. It was packed. Sigh. Probably best to let it soak in water for a day or two and ream it out.

The RMD engine this project came with also was poorly stored with many orifices left open, even the intake and dipstick tube. Not even a stuffed rag. WTF are people thinking. I won't deal with that mess until perhaps next winter....Pete

I do the same as you. Run em thru the media blaster.
