'70-'71 V6 Air Cleaner Color

In regard to the original color of the '70-'71 V6 paper element air cleaner housing, was it more of a glossy black or flat black?

I think mine had original paint when I bought it ~20 years ago. I paint practically all black stuff with semi-gloss or satin. I don't know if that's period correct, however.

The air cleaner on my 71 was originally a glossy black. I repainted it a few years ago, but the original was glossy black.

 

Yeah, I was thinking of doing a semi-gloss, but wasn't sure what the original shade was. Mine is so faded and scratched, it's hard to tell.

 

Gloss paint requires a smooth surface, or it will accent all the imperfections in the sheet metal.
Semi-gloss is not so 'picky'.
