Need Info On V-8 Sbc In Cj5

Need info on the smallist dia. Hei distributor to avoid fire wall clearance
Model or brand??

 

What year is the motor? The small cap hei is generally part of a computer controlled system like the late 90s TBI but don't have mechanical or vacuum advance built in.

 

Check out these two. These small cap HEI distributors are an inch smaller in diameter than the standard GM HEI distributor.

Search Mallory Unilite, that’s what I used. No larger then points style OEM.

Its a pre 1980 carb 305

 

A cheap option would be a stock GM points style distributor, with a Pertronix kit in it. Use a quality cap and rotor and you'd probably never have to touch it.

 

Whatever HEI distributor you end up using, get an extra ignition module and put it in your toolbox in the Jeep. I always planned to grab one and never did. Less than 7k on mine and it died the other day...

 

I keep an extra coil as well. The new Delco components aren't what they used to be.
