Hi Folks. What’s the best/easiest way to add a return line/ fitting to an under seat tank. Trying to avoid vapor lock on the beach jeep. Ya know summer , Florida, Heat, Beach, unhappy wife calling me from the center lane on the bridge.

What year is yours? My 70 has the return line built into the sending unit. If yours doesn't have that , probably a 90° bulkhead fitting would be easiest.

On a new tank, I would solder or braze a fitting in the top. On a used tank, I have tapped a 1/8" NPT elbow into the sending unit top. On my 3B with no sending unit, it's just tapped into the cover. I consider the return line mandatory.

it’s definitely not new. It does have a sending unit on top center. 1/8 NPT. I’ll look for that.

    Return to drain via T.
Mine just returns to the filter before the pump.

Related question- is a fuel filter with the 3rd line sufficient if I have it up near the carb. Or is the 3line pump the only good solution?

My 71 hasn't had a return line since I purchased it in 84. Never had an issue. I've wheeled in Utah, Nevada, and the deserts in Eastern Oregon. The sticky heat of Kentucky and Tennessee summer.

My fuel line is routed through the frame and comes in under the tank. Not saying it will work, but, if yours is plumbed from the bottom, maybe rerouting the fuel line off the engine and through the frame rail might be easier.

Not sure I get your question, but yes a filter up before carb works best for me. I always want to push through a filter. And if the return goes all the way to the tank, I think it is better at cooling the fuel.

That looks like an AMC era fuel filter. You want the return line at the top of the filter.

I have never had Vapor lock, maybe Michigan don't get that hot? We stay in the low 80's most of the summer.

This is what I use for the return port into the tank. Just basic snowmobile parts but in your neck of the woods I assume it would be personal watercraft item.

I use the 3 port fuel filter as well. Same style Rich linked. Not sure why but the pumps with the built in return never appealed to me.

The factory V6 setup with return line runs over the top of the trans & bellhousing, right over the top of the engine next to the left valve cover, then down to the pump. Return line follows the same routing. I've always thought it was a lousy set up but both my 70's have this and with the return hooked up I've never had vapor lock, even on a hot day at high elevation.

Does that tighten against the rubber and expand/seal in a hole. This one looks like the easiest option.

Also, when installing them I have used an old speaker magnet to catch the shavings. I have put them close the fuel gauge port or in the filler neck so the magnet could be placed inside the tank too.
