That makes working on the carrier in the boonies (or in the shop) a lot easier too. Don't even need to jack the jeep up to pull whatever unit you are using in there.

I looked them up, 180,000 psi tensile strength. I'm thinking other stuff is going to break first.

I removed the carrier from the housing, (a little loose on the preload btw) and knocked the pinion out. Cleaned out the housing and gasket surface. The carrier bearings and races are fine (I know, I'm a cheap-***), so I'm rolling with them. I only bought the minor install kit which has no bearings.

Packed the wheel bearings, they look fine! Painted the wheel hubs, and the new brake shoes and cylinders are installed on the backing plates.

The 11" drums don't have any grooves, so I gave them a quick rebuild (paint). And a thin D44 cover, it will do.

Little hiccup, the old pinion yoke was 10 spline, from the 50's-or so. The new pinion spline is 26. So I dug around and surprised myself finding a 26 spline yoke in my parts dept. The seal surface isn't great, but i think I can polish it up.

Can I ask for a measurement on the length of the axle shafts? Assuming they are 19 spline inner/27 spline outer?
I collecting parts to build one of these. I have a set of D30 widetrack 27 spline shafts (long side) that should be longer than needed. Thinking of having the cut end splined with a 19 count if its large enough diameter.

Yes, they are 19 spline inner, 27 spline outer. Long side 31-9/16", short is 23-3/16". The center of the seal surface is 7-1/2" from the outer end.
