I'm looking for an original hood-to-windshield latch for an MB or GPW like the one shown below, with the flat face along the inside of the cylinder. I need one with the right-angle bend in the shaft (not the straight-shaft fender-to-hood hold down).

Please PM me if you have one of these for sale. Thank you!

Maury, I you can’t find original windshield hold-downs, there are reproductions available. Among others, Pete DeBellas Jeep offers what he refers as “excellent” reproductions. They can be found under MB parts, hood and fenders on his parts site. The original part number for that style is A-3197 if this helps with your search. The photo in his listing shows the inner flat side, and features an oil hole like the originals. This will likely be your best bet.
Army Tank Guy and QTM also list the reproductions, but I trust DeBellas as often the better parts available.

Hey Donny, it's great to hear from you, and thank you for the above info. I generally agree with you re. the quality of DeBella's parts.

That said....the second hold-down currently installed on my GPW, in addition to the original that's pictured in my initial post, is one of DeBella's repros. It's a very good reproduction in almost every respect - however, surprisingly, the right-angle bend is about 1/4" too far up the shaft from the end where it attaches to the hood. This causes the remaining portion of the shaft, and thus the hook, to be just slightly too short to hook onto the folded-down windshield as easily and completely as it should.

    So, my search continues!
