I got mine out by dropping the exhaust, a lot of wiggling, and maybe some cursing.

The Ross box, and steering column will come out through the bottom, have to wiggle it around some to clear everything. It is easier if you pull the Pittman arm off first. The Jeep will have to be raised off the ground enough, and I always remove the driver side fender when I am working on them which makes access much easier rather than being underneath trying to snake it out.

From what I have seen Sal only sells the best quality parts so I expect his rebuild kit will be best available.

How do you pull the pitman arm when the box still in place? Pickle fork?

Pittman arm puller, you can buy them at most auto part stores. A pickle fork wouldn't work and even if it would it would probably damage the housing.

I have a pitman arm puller, just didn’t think it would fit in there beside the engine. But I’ll try!

I did get mine out with the Pitman arm in place. I didn't need to do it, but pulling the left motor mount bolt and lifting the engine would help. Oddly enough for all the struggle I had pulling the steering gear out, it slipped back in with no struggle at all.

I have removed the steering gears with or without the Pittman arm attached, you just have to snake it out of there.

I can confirm that it will come out the bottom. I had to take the exhaust loose, and drop the cross member (because my exhaust is routed above it).
Much easier than I was expecting.

You can borrow a Pittman arm puller at O’reilly’s.
