Hi, Im in the process of putting a clutch back in my 71 CJ 5 with a T98 and Dauntless and was looking for some guidance.

The throwout lever only touches the bearing at the very end, and if you look there's a clip on the back side that pictures there is a flange of the bearing. Is this correct? There seems to be a lot of pressure on that clip when the clutch is depressed. What am I not getting here?

Second rookie question, do the springs on the clutch plate face the motor?

    Thanks!!

Yup I noticed that too. Easy mistake to make as it looks more correct the way it’s pictured.

I've found that with the one year only bell housing (71)
the only pressure that works correct is the borg-beck 3 finger . taller then a diaphram

    Thanks for the help, guys!

Ron, are you saying I should return this:
    https://www.kaiserwillys.com/produc...-fits-66-71-cj-5-jeepster-with-v6-225-engine/

    And get this:
    https://www.kaiserwillys.com/produc...ts-54-64-truck-station-wagon-with-226-engine/

Lol, I love this project! All this to get some wind through my thinning hair.

I can only tell you to call KW and ask if pressure plate holes are the same
then there's the question about ID of throw out bearing

Does anyone have the correct pt #'s for a borg and beck 3 finger clutch kit that works for a 71. I too am in the clutch replacement process. I ordered the Luk 01-029 and it's the diaphragm style. With it installed on the flywheel it's a full 1/2" thinner depth. I've been checking Summit R and Rock Auto with no luck.
(I hope you don't mind me jumping in on this thread)
    Thanks Baxter (dauntless/t14)

Been battling clutch issues with my 71 for ever. Anyone know where I could get a Borg and beck style clutch for a 71 with the 225?

What direction does the basket side of the clutch disc face? (The raised disk with the springs in it) The flywheel or the pressure plate?

    Thanks!
