Hello there! I was wondering if anyone knows the correct style lugnuts for the Aluminum Renegade wheels. I'm guessing they're the conical seat style, but thought I'd ask just to be sure. Thanks!

You ought to be able to tell the correct lugnut type just by looking at the seating surface on the rims. If there is a bevel inside each lug nut hole, then the rims are designed for tapered lug nuts. Otherwise, you are going to need some form of lug nut with a shank and washer combination.

With that having been said, I have never seen a cast aluminum wheel that used a tapered lug nut, most likely because of the stress that it places on the hub of the rim. It just seems like it would induce a lot of strain on the wheel around the lugs, since it puts an almost equal amount of stress outward around the lug as it does inward against the axle flange. The shank-and-washer setup on the other hand puts almost all of the strain inward against the axle.

    Clear as mud?

Thanks for the info. The aluminum wheels on my Chevy pickup, and the Torque-Thrust wheels on my Hornet both use tapered lugnuts, but the old mags on my Impala use a short shank style with a tapered seat. The Renegade wheels are beveled at the lug openings, so I'm assuming they take a conical style, but the mounting flange is so thick, it looks like a shank type could be used also. I was hoping maybe someone had some originals on their Jeep so they could set me straight. Thanks, Curt
