I bought my jeep in Utah and registered it in Calif. But they won't give me plates until it passes a CHP inspection. It is almost done and I'm getting all the little bells and whistles working.
Does anybody know what is required to pass the inspection?

if I recall, you'll have to take it to one of those "blue shield", "state certified" (read $$$) inspection stations; most gas stations used to do inspections, but now they are harder to find.
Look thru the phonebook or call AAA if you are a member.
They will check the lights, brakes, wipers, windshield, all the safety stuff.
If you need VIN verification, paperwork vs the Jeep, any peace officer can sign off on that.......... as long as they match of course !!

bizarre ....... Cal hasn't had CHP inspections since I was a kid

The only inspection the CHP do are for the VIN or a salvage veh. Check with your local CHP office or the Inland Division office in San Bernardino
