Anyone know the trick to getting a pitman arm to let go of the steering box and tie rod? I've been having one heck of a time.

Alternating heat/cold, and lots of sweat.

Ive seen a buddy of mine take two hammers and use one as a back up and wack the heck out of the pitman arm right at the splines on the gear box shaft. He was very successful at this many times and rarely used a pitman arm puller. I was only successful at hitting everthing else under the jeep.

I used an acetylene torch and a big hammer,,,,worked pretty well.

The trick I learned was first have a compressor and a dull pneumatic chisel for it. Use a p-arm puller and put pressure on it, run the chisel up and down on the collar at the steering box for a minute. Tighten the puller some more, run the chisel up and and around, tighten, run the chisel on it and keep it up until it pops. Keep your head away from it. Usually takes 3 to 5 minutes.

A pickle fork kit as above, a puller, BFH, and heat is probably next best.

    Good luck
